cover improvements

  

The first image is how the image was taken but i decided that this wouldnt catch the attention of my taregt audience so i decided that it had to be editied. The original photo has a shadow in the background and this wouldnt be seen in a magazine unless the shadow was really dark but this ones just shows that the camera and lighting were set correctly. With the original being in colour it draws the attention to the model and in most cases this would be the benefit but not to me as i have been told that the model looks really young. The second image has been edited and it allows the magazine to be unique as the front covers i have looked at are in colour or black and white so i decided to do a combination of both by doing it all in black and white except from the eyes and lips..

i was told that i needed to fill up some white space that i had at the top right hand side of the cover. i was also told in my rough cut feedback that i needed to introduce the artists and put her name somewhere so i decided to do two improvements at once and do both in this space. by doing this the readers are able to see who will be involved in the magazine.

here i added a skyline, which i didn't have time to do when i handed in my rough cuts. i was told that i needed to include one so that my cover looked professional and formal. the wording that i have used is what i wanted it to say and this is what i had planned for it to be like in my flat plans however i planned for the style to be different but it looks more appropriate like this.

here i was advised to add a 'puff' which meant that i would tell the readers who were involved in my magazine inside.

i was also advised to change the size of my barcode and the reason for this was because the original size that i had it was the actual size of my models head when it was brought up to her height. by making it smaller it meant that i had more space to fill up with sell lines and issue numbers etc.

contents improvements

This shows that i have made one of the improvements that i was advised to make when i gave in my rough cuts of my products. The thing that i have done is that i have made the word 'contents' larger and have also added a black border so that it is clear what magazine it is because my front cover has these on. also it makes the magazine look more bold and makes each page stand out.

Here this is how i have constructed my contents page when focusing on the layout. I have copied the layout of my contents similar to a professional magazine which is already on the shelves and is available for people to purchase. This magazine is the one that i have looked at throughout the production process of my courseowrk piece. This magazine is 'Q'.

here i am going to include another image so that it gets me to the required amount which is 4 images. i haven't yet added the image but i have indicated that the image will go once i have added it in. I decided to add a section called 'editors letter:' and my reason for this is because many other magazines that i have looked at other than Q have these in and it will allow me to keep up with view of a professional magazine. 

 here i have added a subscription box. i decided to put on some offers in hope that my customers would purchase the magazines. i was advised to add a subscription box to my front cover at first but once i handed in my rough cuts it seemed a better idea to include them on the contents page as it would fill up some of the white space that i had. 

here i added a banner at the bottom of the page to keep up with the look that i am going for on my cover, contents and DPS. by adding the border it allows the reader to understand that the page is finished.

DPS improvements

here it shows how i have added a introduction to my interviewer which was one of the improvements that i was told to make on my rough cuts because the only introduction was in the actual article and most readers want to know who they are reading about first before they make up their minds of if they are going to read on or not. Also it is good to have an introduction as it is seen as more formal.

here it shows how i have increased the size of the header, the reason why i have done this is that it needs to be understandable and readable for all the readers who intend on purchasing my magazine. i also improved the font as the font that i had in my rough cuts wasn't as understandable as this. By changing each of these aspects it allows the header to look more dynamic and more professional which was my intended aim.

in the magazines DPS that have made it in the professional magazine they all have a quote insert. i decided to put a few of these in my article to make it look more professional. I didn't actually get told to do this in my improvements feed back that i was given however when looking at other magazines that are on shop shelves i have seen numerous amounts of these which made me think that it was an improvement that i could do in order for people to think that it was more professional so in hope they would purchase it. 

in my rough cut feedback i was told that i need to include a drop cap and this is when the first letter of the article is in a larger font that the rest. i did this so that it looked more professional as other magazines have this already included. before including a drop cap my article was all the same size which made it look boring.

Above is the feedback that i was given by my teachers. From the feedback that was given it is clear to see that i have many improvements to make to make sure that my work is at its full potential. Although my rough cuts are in mark band 4 and are getting 16/20 marks i want to get more marks so that i can reach my final grade so these adjustments will get me to the top of the mark band.

Magazine Rough Cuts

These are the rough couts that i have produced for my print media coursework. My rough cuts contain a front cover, contents page and a DPS.  The rough cuts allowed me to get feedback on my work and how they would be able to be adjusted. My rough cuts allowed me to see how my magazine would compare to a magazine that is already in the media eye.

Each of the images below show me taking the images that i have used in my final products, Each of these images show the proof that it was myself who took the images that have been used. The person who is seen in each of these shots takign the image is myself and the people who are seen in the photos are my models who allowed me to demonstrate my camera skills on them.
